Background
This document provides the instructions needed to send an encrypted email to someone outside of Community Transit.
Step #1
First send the recipient an email letting know they may be getting a suspicious email from Microsoft alerting them to a secure email. Make sure to promptly send out the secure email right after the first email.
Step #2
Launch Outlook (desktop version) and click Options and then the Lock above Encrypt.
Step #3
Under Encrypt, click the dropdown arrow and then your email address, it should have the Encrypt-Only option checked.
Step #4
Compose you email as normal. Note that if you attach any files that they should be the following format or they will not be encrypted: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF.
Step #5
After clicking Send you will likely get the below pop-up. This is to indicate only the previously mentioned file types will be encrypted. It's not recommended to check the box, "Don't show this message again" as it will no longer remind you about the limitations for attachments.
